The First 70

We’re always on the lookout for our next big adventure, which is why is saddens us learn that the state of California intends to close 1/4 of it’s 278 parks by July of 2012. In fact, this coming fall, if all of our cards fall into place, we’re looking to take a 30-day road trip starting in Manitoba, and circling all the way down to the West Coast, including California. This means that we will be too late to see many of these parks. With such an abundance of beauty, it seems incredibly shortsighted to think that a savings of $22 million in return for the closure of 70 natural parks will possibly be worth it, but we digress. What we do know is that once again, through Kickstarter, we’ve found a project worth backing. In short, The First 70 is a short film about Californians banding together to enact change and develop solutions in the face of a glaring bureaucratic oversight. The group has now reached their goal of $35,500, with 15 days to go, but we plan to pledge nonetheless. Take a look at the video below, and if you feel a little tug at your heartstrings, head over to The First 70 on Kickstarter for more information, and judge for yourselves.  - Tyler
